Tournament Info-Please Read
The website has been updated with details for tournament weekend. Please read through as much of the information as you can. It will help check-in run smoothly and efficiently. All players have been sent an email welcoming them to tournament weekend. If you are playing and have not received an email welcoming you to tournament weekend, please contact us at email@example.com.
We will be updating divisions as they get completed on the website this year. Go to the 2018 Results page and check out up-to-the-minute results in every division during the weekend. All pools and formats have been posted and can be found on the 2018 Pools/Brackets page. If you are not sure of what time you play or are checking for approximate times that events are starting, check out the 2018 Times/Division page for more detail. If you are not playing, consider stopping out and checking out the action. Should be a lot of Pickleball this weekend!
We are looking forward to another great year at Andover!
May the 4th (2018) be with you,
Luke and Twila

Pools/Brackets - Registration Closed
Registration has been closed. We were happy to get the last few players through the gate, but I am afraid we are going to have to bring it to an end. We have landed on a current total of 315 players and very grateful for everyone's support. Now we have to get to work.....
We will be working around the clock to get the pools and brackets up on the website. Players will receive a tournament email once this is complete. Our goal is to have all the pools, brackets, emails; and details set and sent out before bed on Sunday!
The website will have some significant changes to reflect that, so please check out the website next week; and keep an eye on your email.
April 25, 2018
As many of you may have seen, some of the event times were adjusted to accommodate the player numbers. It should not be too drastic, but there are a few changes. I know the web page states that these times are not final until Friday, April 25 2018; but even though we have a few minor changes taking place in a couple divisions from having some players drop out in the last day or two, and some rearranging to do, it does look as if those will be the final times. We believe that we have all 315 tournament players accounted for and there should not be anymore adjusting to the start times listed. Please remember, this is Pickleball and times are not always perfect as we can be waiting for other matches to be completed and such, but these are the start times we are shooting for and have historically been pretty close.
Please check out the 2018 page to find you start times. An email will be sent out laying out the weekend and what can be expected. All players should be receiving that email by the end of the day on Sunday, April 29.
April 20, 2018
5 Days Left!
Registration will close in 5 days! We have indicated on the Player List/Eventpage all players who DO NOT have a registration on file. Please check the page and make sure you and your partner have both been registered. The deadline is WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25, 2018.

Leisure Area/Kid Area
This year we will have a larger room available for players and their families to use. We will have it open and set up on Saturday and Sunday of the tournament. This area will be kid friendly and may have some games, movies, or something to try and keep families occupied. Please note, this area will be UNSUPERVISED and is not to be mistaken for daycare. If you plan to leave any children there, please make sure they are self-sufficient or please arrange for someone to be available for them. This room is available for others to use, but it was mainly intended for our volunteers and players with children to have a place to go. It will be a little ways from the action, so it probably will not be useful for people to store their belongings. More to come....
April 18, 2018
Registration Deadline One Week Away
Registration will close one week from today. We are pretty full, but we have some room available in a number of different events. We cannot take any registrations after April 25, 2018, regardless of postmark. We need to create the pools, the brackets, and finalize our numbers for operational purposes. With having as many players as we do this year, we cannot make exceptions after April 25, 2018. Please let us know ASAP if you are having any trouble registering and we can help get you in.

April 15, 2018
We hate to do it, but it is going to be a pretty late night already. We have a few registrations to put through yet, and we will honor those, but we are at capacity for singles. Everyone else registering for singles will have to be wait-listed. If you are playing singles and do not plan on attending, please let us know and we can free up a spot for someone else.

Luke at Andover Tomorrow!
Luke will be at Andover Community Center FRIDAY, APRIL 13 from about 8:30am - 11:30am to take registrations, answer any questions, or partner people up who are looking for partners. He will be at the desk outside the field house and he will have registrations available with the system up and running to get people registered on the spot. We have over 250 players registered are running out of space in a few divisions. We would like as many local folks to participate as possible, so come see Luke tomorrow at Andover and get registered!

Merging of Divisions
Will we have to merge divisions? This is always a struggle for tournament directors. We want to keep the play fair and competitive, but we also need to be responsible with our time and resources. There are a lot of different opinions about how things get merged when we do not have enough players to make a division whole. In order for us to keep a division whole, we typically need at least four teams in the division; but not only in that division, but also in the surrounding divisions. If one division has 4 teams, but the one below or above it only has 2 or 3, those will typically be merged. There are exceptions to this such as Juniors, and Singles, but overall this is the procedure we use.

Early Registration Closing...
Early registration will be closing tomorrow, April 6 2018. We will accept all registrations that are postmarked by April 6, 2018 as "early". Registration will remain open until April 25, 2018; but the registration fee will increase from $30 to $40.
We have almost 170 completed registrations and 40 incomplete registrations at this time. After some people are paired up and with the registrations we get in the final three weeks, we are projecting to have 225-250 players this year.
Come join the party!

Q: You have listed the Senior Men's and Senior mixed on Friday. Will both of them play on that day?
A: Senior players may play both doubles (Men's or Women's) and Mixed on Friday at separate times, if they are up to it they may also play Singles or Skinny Singles later that day along with the skill divisions on Sat and Sun, we love our Seniors so much, they get the chance to play 5 different divisions!
Q: What time are the events?
A: We pride ourselves in a smoothly run tournament and in order to do this puzzle, we make the schedule after we have the majority of the entries in. We know that Seniors will be generally in the morning on Friday and the Youth and Singles will be in the evening after the Senior Division is complete, after 5pm. We hope to accommodate the usual work schedule people have.
Q: I don't have a partner!
A: Send us an email, we would be happy to post your information and we will also help when we can.
Q: I would like to play in the youth division, do I need my own partner?
A: We want the youth division to be about fun with a little competitiveness so we split the age brackets from 8-12 and 13-17. We are happy to help find a partner if you don't have one. It is an open tournament which means that you can have a mix of girls or boys or one of each on your team.

Merging Divisions (Part II)
What divisions are most likely to be merged at the Andover Tournament?
In Andover, the first thing we would merge would be age. Since there are no real age indicators in the skill rating descriptions through the USAPA, this is where we usually start. If our numbers are big enough we will break those skill divisions into age divisions, but that is where we will start if we have to. The next place we would merge would be the 2.5 - 3.0 division and the 4.5 - 5.0 divisions. These divisions usually have the lowest number in each to support them on their own and together are still pretty competitive. In Andover, we will never combine 3.5 and 4.0. We sure hope to support all divisions this year!
February 11, 2017
Merging Divisions (Part I)
Why do some tournament directors merge divisions?
The short answer - numbers. In a perfect world, all tournaments would have as many divisions as possible and represent every age and skill level; but unfortunately it doesn't always seem like that happens. Unless the tournament is deemed "open" and everyone is in one division, there will always be some merging of divisions in these tournaments. Tournament directors do their best to only merge those divisions that seem most appropriate and try to keep everything competitive.
